This is me, Ruth Greenwood, about to teach one of my favourite
postures, Janu Sirsasana. My yoga journey
began many years ago when my grandmother
would teach me simple, traditional yogic
practices that she had picked up as yoga came
across in the 70s. I dabbled a little.. attended
a few classes with my parents.. tried to teach
myself from library books (obviously leaving
out the postures I didn't like or 'couldn't do'!)
and then dove in head first when I got to
university. Here I found Iyengar yoga, which
connected me deeply to my physical body and
allowed me the mental space during stressful
exam times. After this I moved on through
traditional hatha styles, to strong Ashtanga
and Vinyasa styles, to Dru yoga, a softer
flowing style with a heart felt approach. Now my yoga journey has led me to the beautiful path of Bhakti Yoga, the practice of yoga through devotion. And I try and apply this, with an open heart, throughout my daily life.
I've been teaching for 5 years and have experience teaching general group sessions, private one to one classes, and sessions for people with specific needs such as soon-to-be mums and students with physical or mental difficulties.
I also offer massage treatments and Reiki and can give advice on how to use yoga therapeutically.
